From the Chair

Dear Republican Friends,

From all reports, the coming Presidential Election will be hot and heavy in Michigan.  Betsy DeVos, State Chair, has pledged Bush will carry Michigan.  Gladwin’s past history has carried for Bush, so we will have our work cut out for us.  We will also be electing other important offices- such as State Representative.  We need to elect Republicans.

Our agenda for future fundraising to help our candidates are: Beaverton Good Ole Days Corn Sale, a possible fall event, and next years Lincoln Day Dinner.  We will need all your help, so please offer a few hours of your time to help with these events when called.

Bring a friend to our meetings.  Our last few meetings have had many new faces and a full house.  Many items of interest are always discussed.

Do you know someone interested in being a candidate for office?  Is so, give me a call and I will visit with them.  We must elect conservative Republicans to stop the liberal viewpoint that is trying to take over our country.

Please take a few moments and pray for Larry and Bev Grove as Larry is battling against cancer.

Don Birgel

Thanks to fair chair Billie Penick!

With a year off of elections, Billie stepped to the plate and gave it her all.  Thanks to Billie for a job well done under bad circumstances!  Volunteers were Billie, Bob & Barb Schafer, Don Birgel, Stan & Ruby Sampson, Lana & Keith Edick, Shari Ewalt & grandson, Dave & Theo Coker.  If we missed anyone, we will be sure and mention you in the next newsletter.

1st District Meeting

1st District Meeting was a success.  Attending were Don and Linda Birgel and Bob and Barbara Schafer.  Highlights of the meeting were:

Ř       Special buttons will be sold at Mackinaw Island to raise money.

Ř       Art Thayer (Grayling) and Don Birgel were appointed to formulate ideas for a 1st District Conference – hopefully to be held in a location where both UP and Lower Michigan can attend at one time.

Anyone with ideas please contact Don Birgel at 426-6836.

2003 Lincoln Day Results

Kristie Simrau announced that the 2003 Lincoln Day Dinner netted about $1,100.00 profit.  Contributing to the success was the sale of our Millennium memberships.  Thanks to Dale Holec and Linda Birgel for providing the Gladwin County Republican Party with the most Millennium memberships to date.

Clement Twp. Election

Jessica Vincent was elected Treasurer, but Craig Scott narrowly lost by a few votes.  Thanks to these two great Republican candidates for stepping forward.  Hope to see both Jessica and Craig at  our meetings.
